  1. We've had the garage band thread, which should continue, by the way, but what about the 70's? It wasn't all stone washed jeans, blow dried haircuts and perms, MOR and disco. Far from it. There was great music released in the decade that seemed to drag on forever, and I'm not talking about pretentious twits like ELP or Rush. Rock expanded to cover many genre, and often became more complex. But it also devolved into punk, in part a reaction against the increasing complexity and musical noodling of rock. But there was good music recorded and released. In the aftermath of Lemmy's death, I spent two days revisiting bands that he'd been involved with, going through my vinyl collection to dig up which records of mine he was on. He wasn't only in Motorhead. And my favorite records he played on were the band's best recordings. I'm talking about the psychedeic space rock band, Hawkwind. Also, I've just come home from a Warsaw coffee shop that was playing the Eagles. The Eagles, for fecks sake! And I have to get that sound out of my head. What better way than to get outta my head on Hawkwind?
