Membership perks!?! Vendor Discounts?

Recommended Posts

Yes....joining this club is awesome, and to have the vast knowledge of these scoots being shared from everyone is great.  Love my yearly patches that someday I will sew on a jacket.  But I also know one of our perks is some cool discounts from various vendors, and I cant find the info.  Help!

Need more parts and would love to save a couple of bucks by being a proud LCUSA Member #663  :D

So, I'm wanting to help the TX Ambassador with a LCUSA membership drive, and wanted to see what benefits membership gets you. I saw this thread, and thought I'd note:

- only one of the vendors listed (Sole Power) seems to still be in existence. Are there any others (Jet200, Scooter-Speed, Scooters-O, etc) offering discounts?

- also, if I'm a new member, what does registering get me? Access to members-only forums, able to go to Lammy Jammy, membership patch, and Specialist subscription...is that correct? Is there anything else?

Access to members-only forum, magazines, annual patch, discounted entry to Jamboree, 10% discount at Scooters Originali on Scootopia parts. Membership in the greatest Lambretta club in the world ;)

For me, it's been mostly about the lifelong friendships with other like minded enthusiasts that I would have only gotten through this club right here. You don't realize that is a benefit until a few years after you have been in the club and hanging around the forum.

So, I was thinking about this again, and compare this to the HAMB Alliance (any hot rodders familiar with the Jalopy Journal site know what I'm talking about). A few benefits of membership there:

- vendor discounts (BTW - this doesn't have to be limited to Scooter shops - maybe other goods and services offered by LCUSA members can be included?)
- free advertising for HAMB Alliance members (shops and individuals offering goods and services) - when offering a discount to other Alliance members
- seller/buyer mediation between MEMBERS on their classifieds site. I understand making the classifieds public on FB, but I think that this extra level of protection is valuable
- they have a "pay it forward" section of the classifieds on the member site. I know I have extra lambretta crap I'd give away to other LCUSA members who need it. Maybe we can add this to the forums, and use it to promote/market membership?

I like this idea. Not a ton of perks to joining. I would be willing to offer a discount on tattoos to members. 🤷🏼‍♂️ You never know when you’ll be drunk in Vegas and want to make regrettable descicions with a discount.

Regrettable decisions done with a discount.

not quite the same ring as the other version. 😈 (Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap)

To stay on topic, it's always been up to the shops on whether or not they want to offer club members a discount. I'll admit that was a big perk way back but I found that it was better to have a club with a focus of promoting Lambretta history and culture.

Discount - I'm sure this is a tough one for the dealers (Jet200, Scooter Speed, Sole Power, Lambretta Concessionaires, ScootersO Pacific, etc) as I would guess 40-50% of their (Lambretta parts) orders probably come from LCUSA members, which would eat into their bottom line, and they still have overheads and want to make a wage, so that they're still in business when we need parts !!

Tony's suggestion above about Pay It Forward is a great one as we all have stuff laid around which may be useful to other members who are in need.

The Specialist has always been a struggle for the admin to get content and contributions, and as mentioned at the recent Members Meeting, this is likely to change, becoming an annual production.

At least the tracking of membership renewals has improved with the new club store. And the Club Store has some great product (well done Matt).

To me, its this Forum, the Jamboree and the lifelong friendships as Peter mentions above.

I can't speak for the other vendors, but I can assure you that my margin is not that high. I know everyone thinks parts are expensive, and they are, but it is not the store owners that make them so. They are expensive to produce in limited quantities. e.g., I had some screws made for the Luna line recently. 227 screws cost me $800. I doubt I'll sell 100 of these screws, but I've priced them at $8.80 each so I can break even at 100. (The other 10% is to deal with overhead, such as the time/effort/fuel and PayPal/credit card fees).
